smartDCS Provides Wide Area Data Connection For Ethical Power

smartDCS successfully installed the Data Link between Ethical Power's BESS site and the National Grid DNO. Despite encountering challenges such as the complex route alongside a major trunk road, the A38, smartDCS efficiently overcame these obstacles to provide a seamless and efficient wide area data connection.
Our Customer
Ethical power, the pioneering Renewable Energy Company in the UK, is dedicated to revolutionising the industry through its vertically integrated approach. Ethical Power was selected as the principle EPC contractor by SMS for their expertise Spanish research, design, funding. implementation, and operation of various renewable energy facilities, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Farms. Ethical Power sought smartDCS's assistance in establishing a reliable Data connection to the National Grid DNO from their newly developed BESS site in Berkeley Gloucestershire.
smartDCS Solution
Upon receiving Ethical Power's request, smartDCS began by planning the delivery of the Data Link installation, which involved a 5.2 kilometre distance from the BESS site to the National Grid Pylon at Station Road Berkeley. The chosen path required the construction of a new Pit & Duct to accommodate the 24 core Singlemode Armour free Duct cable.
smartDCS leveraged their expertise in fibre optic skills and deployed a team of skilled singers to execute the project. The team diligently pulled the fibre optic cable long the designated route, ensuring its proper termination at three locations. To ensure the quality and reliability of the data connection, the test results were shared with the National Grid for their review and termination of each end.
Results and Benefits
Despite the challenges associated with route complexity and the need for construction work, smartDCS successfully completed the installation on time and within the allocated budget. The customer, Ethical Power, expressed great satisfaction with the seamless data connection provided by smartDCS. As a result, the site can now rely on a robust, wide area data connection, enabling efficient communication between Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sites.
Conclusion
smartDCS's delivery of the Wide Area Data Link exemplifies the confidence customers can expect when there is requirement to support a CNI project. Through their expertise and dedication, smartDCS effectively overcame challenges to deliver a reliable and efficient Data Link. The completed project has not only met but exceeded the expectations of Ethical Power, allowing them to continue their mission of fostering sustainable energy solutions across the UK.
